We need to be able to make changes in our lives to respond to problems and be emotionally resilient.
Problem solving is a key skill in this and we will look at this later in this lesson. Another key skill is understanding that we cannot change other people’s behaviour, yet we can change our own and how we react.
Our wellbeing is affected by changes that happen around us or by things we need to change.

Thinking about changes now. What things around you have changed in the past to affect your wellbeing? This can be both good things or bad things.
Jot down some of the things that have happened.
This response will be reviewed and graded after submission.
We often cannot change what happens to us but we can change how we react to it. There is no physical way we can change another person regardless of how hard we try. Think of the example of locking up a criminal in prison. We have taken away their freedom but its not changing their behaviour.
Things that can affect our wellbeing may happen to us repeatedly at different times in our lives. So being able to build up our resilience to this will build our strength and determination to get through them long term.
