Recognition of our emotions help us to understand our thoughts andbehaviours that we experience when we have these emotions. Equally, it helps us to be compassionate to ourselves when we do something in response to a situation that triggers an emotion that we have had before.
Wider Watching- below is all about the importance of emotional intelligence.
You may notice that the limbic system is in the middle to bottom bit of the brain? This is the oldest part of the brain. The pre frontal cortex on the other hand is at the forefront of the top half of your brain- Which one do you think is the most developed and accessible?
Depending on your beliefs the bottom half of your brain can be considered as your reptilian brain. It is the simplest bit but has existed in development longer than any other part, i.e. it is very strong compared to the frontal cortex which was later on in our development. It is understandable why welisten to this part of our brain more.
